David Rhyss-Jones may be remembered for being the most reported player in league history, with 25 tribunal appearances, but he certainly had his fair share of good days, too.
He was a member of the 1987 Carlton Premiership team and won the coveted Norm Smith Medal for his superb game at centre half-back, blanketing Hawthorn trump Dermott Brereton. He played 182 games with South Melbourne/Sydney and Carlton, and was a Victorian representative.
After hanging up the boots, Rhys-Jones began a coaching career that included three years at North Launceston (for one Premiership), three years with Frankston (two Grand Final appearances), and one year at Heidelberg.
Earlier this year David was approached by the 7 Network to try out for the coaching role in their new Football program called “The Club”, after several weeks on air showing the public of what he had to offer, he was voted in as head coach. The 39-year-old describes his involvement with The Club as a “fantastic ride that could lead anywhere. There will be such a diverse range of players that making them into a team will be a hard task, but a challenging one,” Rhys-Jones says.
